Völs/Fiè
Völs am Schlern: originally a summer resort for the well-heeled burghers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, this village at the foot of the Schlern at 2,890 feet elevation is enormously popular among South Tyroleans, not least for its pretty bathing lake set amid the forest which reflects the Schlern on its surface, just close enough for Bozen’s townspeople to take a dip after work (ice-skating in winter!). Prösels Castle at Obervöls is just one of its attractions.
